Privacy policy
How The Deal Directory collects, uses and looks after your personal information.
Last updated 10 October 2026
Who we are
The Deal Directory (dealdirectory.com.au) is published and operated by A.M.P.K Holdings Pty.Ltd (“we”, “us”). We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect
- Your account: your name, email address, password (stored only as a secure one-way hash, never in readable form), and if you choose to add them, your phone number, your local area and whether you’d like marketing emails.
- Sign in with Google: if you use “Continue with Google”, Google shares your name, email address, profile picture and Google account ID with us. We never see your Google password.
- Saved deals and competitions: the offers you save, and your competition entries, including your answer, any phone number you give, and the internet (IP) address the entry came from, which we use to stop duplicate or automated entries.
- Enquiries: the name, email, mobile number, business name and message you send through our contact form.
- Newsletter: your email address and chosen area if you subscribe.
- Location: only if you tap “Near me”. Your browser then shares an approximate location (rounded to about 1 km) so we can list the nearest areas first. We don’t store it.
- Security records: a log of security events such as staff sign-ins and password resets, with the IP address they came from.
How we use it
- to run your account, show and save deals, and remember your area;
- to run competitions, check entries and contact winners. If you win, we may give your name and contact details to the business providing the prize so they can deliver it;
- to reply to enquiries and arrange advertising;
- to send our newsletter, only if you subscribed or opted in. Every email has an unsubscribe link;
- to keep the site and your account secure.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t give your details to the businesses whose offers you view or save.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies, all needed for the site to work:
dd_sid: keeps you signed in and protects forms from misuse;dd_area: remembers the area you chose, for up to a year.
We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don’t use third-party analytics.
Who else handles it
Your information is stored in our own database on servers we control. If you use Google sign-in, Google handles that sign-in under Google’s privacy policy. Enquiries are delivered to our team’s Gmail inbox. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your account, saved deals and competition entries until you delete your account. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. Enquiries are kept as business records. Copies in our backups are removed as older backups are replaced, normally within about two weeks.
Your choices
- View and update your details on your account page, where you can also disconnect Google.
- Delete your account at any time from the account page. This removes your account, saved deals and competition entries.
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any email.
- Ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, or to correct it, using the contact details below.
Keeping it safe
Passwords are stored as one-way hashes, the site is served over an encrypted connection, and only our staff can access the admin area. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access.
Contact and complaints
For privacy questions, requests or complaints, contact us. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
